West Shore Community College Utility Maintenance Technician I in Scottville, Michigan

West Shore Community College seeks an outstanding individual to assist in the Facilities Maintenance area wherever required, including performing general repairs in maintaining building components and mechanical systems, custodial duties, mail pickup and delivery, assisting in loading and unloading and delivery of packages. The Utility Maintenance Technician I reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Recreational Services and shall maintain a positive customer service orientation.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Repair and maintain snow removal equipment
  • Check boiler functions and temperatures of buildings
  • Check oil levels of vehicles and equipment weekly 
  • Repair and maintain grounds and equipment
  • Repair lighting in buildings and grounds
  • Review roadways and sidewalks for snow and ice conditions
  • Deliver paper and packages across campus as needed
  • Fill in as needed for custodial work* *

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Maintain own hand tools
  • Maintain and safeguard all assigned WSCC equipment, software, and facility areas, which includes compliance with policies and procedures
  • Know and follow all safety procedures, including maintaining a safe working environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

*Education and Experience: *

  • Highschool diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of experience in general maintenance and repair of building/mechanical systems  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with electrical, HVAC, plumbing
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in electrical, HVAC, plumbing
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety
  • Ability to use general computer technology
  • Commercial cleaning experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of cleaning, safety procedures and capability of handling chemicals used on the job
  • Knowledge of the use and care of mechanical cleaning equipment such as but not limited to buffers, vacuums, and extractors
  • Skilled in general knowledge of tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, color blindness test and drug screening
  • Ability to read and follow directions
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to customer service

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Employee may be exposed to indoor environment, outdoor environment, noise, extreme temperatures, moisture and/or humidity, dust, fumes, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, and sharp objects/tools. 
  • Duties are performed in an independent and team atmosphere. Continuous collaboration with team and supervisor will occur. 

COMPENSATION/START DATE

Starting Hourly rate: $16.17 or higher depending on experience Starting Date: As soon as mutually agreed upon
