Qualifications

Grade 12 Diploma and/or related health care

Technical Competencies

Problem Solving, Organizing Own Work, Excellent Recording and Reporting Skills, Personal Care Skills, Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, Second language may required in certain locations

Experience

Orientated on the Job/ Previous Health Care experience preferred

Examples

Activities of Daily Living

  • Portering residents to and from dining room

  • Assisting with serving meals, Feeding residents

  • Completing Nutrition cart and assisting residents with the nutrition snack as required

Quality of Life

  • accommodating residents’ right to choice

  • assisting residents in maintaining involvement in family and community

  • responding to residents’ emotional needs

Environmental Management

  • Clearing Dining rooms after meals

  • cleaning spills

  • making beds

  • changing linens

  • maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe environment in the Resident room, tidy resident rooms, remove excess garbage, labelling of residents personal items

  • Sorting and restocking of PSW carts and folding laundry (towels, face cloths, clothing protectors, resident personal items)

  • Cleaning tub rooms after baths of residents

  • Emptying linen carts

  • practicing universal precautions

  • maintaining and caring for nursing equipment

Communication of Information for Continuous Improvement

  • answering of call bells and informing of nursing staff of residents needs

  • informing staff of resident concerns and suggestions

  • informing staff on information impacting resident care and safety

  • participating in development of action plans to address concerns

  • participating in care conferences

Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities

  • Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy.

  • Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

  • Participate in all required occupational health and safety training.

  • Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing,

  • Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor.

  • Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk.

  • Respects and preserves the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times. Violations of this statement include, but are not limited to:

  • accessing confidential information that is not within the scope of the individuals duties
