The Holland America Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid (remote) summer internship opportunity designed to provide exposure and insight to professional careers in the amazing leisure travel, cruise industry. The selected interns will work on departmental projects as well as participate in professional development and enrichment activities.

2025 Program Dates (two options)

• Program runs 10 weeks from June 9th - August 18th or June 16th - August 25th.

Eligibility

• Eligible candidates are enrolled in a four-year accredited undergraduate program (where they are at least a rising junior) or in a graduate/Ph.D. program and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• MUST NOT be a graduating senior in the summer 2025.

Compensation

• Undergraduate - $25.00/hr, Graduate - $35.00/hr, Ph.D. - $45.00/hr

Intern Project Details - Safety Operations Intern – Data Collection

The internship project involves creating a heat map visualization of injury data collected on board for both guests and crew. The goal is to provide a clear overview of where injuries occur on different classes of ships, facilitating better analysis and focus areas for safety improvements.

Requirements

• Proficiency using MS office Suite including Outlook & MS Teams

• Ability to work independently, remotely and self-manage.

• Well organized and able to communicate effectively with colleagues and managers.

• The types of duties the students will perform will vary and may require some technical tasks, projects and/or work that may require specific proficiencies, technical abilities and/or computer skills.

Majors Preferred: Data Science, Information Technology, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.

Skills Preferred:

• Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously review and ensure the accuracy of injury data.

• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities to identify patterns and trends in injury data.

• Technical Proficiency: Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and database management systems.

• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating reports, communication pieces, and presenting findings.

• Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively with IT and other departments to integrate and utilize the heat map.

• Organizational Skills: Proficiency in organizing data and managing multiple tasks to ensure project milestones are met.

• Creative Thinking: Innovative approach to developing a heat map visualization that meets the project goals.

• Time Management: Effective time management skills to balance data collection, analysis, and reporting tasks.
