Port of Seattle Assistant Director, Capital Services & Financial Systems in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As the Assistant Director of Capital Services and Financial Systems, you will lead efforts to ensure fiscal integrity, financial transparency, and public funds accountability, while mitigating audit risks.

  • You will oversee centralized accounting of capital improvement programs and federal/state grant programs to ensure legal compliance, asset accountability, and risk mitigation.

  • You will oversee the Port’s central financial systems from a functional and operational perspective.

  • You will handle external audits, drive process improvements, and optimize financial systems and technology.

  • You will guide direct reports in managerial positions, ensuring they provide hands-on leadership to professional staff.

  • You will also offer guidance to indirect reports managing project accounting and central financial systems, ensuring alignment with Port strategies, legal requirements, and financial standards.

  • You will oversee the annual budget and business plan, manage upgrades to financial and human capital systems, and coordinate with key partners whose operating systems interacting with the financial and human capital systems to enhance business processes and internal controls.

  • You will interpret and apply Federal/State regulations, oversee Passenger Facility Charges and Single Audit reporting, and enforce financial and accounting policies to ensure public funds accountability, financial integrity, and audit compliance.

  • You will drive long-term strategy and improvements by leveraging technology and automation.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have six (6) years in accounting/financial management experience including responsibility for accounting operations and systems related to assets management, grant administration, and delivery of accounting or financial systems, to include three (3) years of experience supervising staff and managing a function related to accounting operation and system and/or financial reporting.

  • Certificate – You are an active Certified Public Accountant.

  • Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration.

You also have broad functional knowledge of financial systems implementation or upgrade and leveraging emerging technologies.Critical Thinking – You have strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking skills. You can apply systems thinking and link departmental goals and initiatives with department strategies and objectives.

  • Communication – You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to garner trust and build strong, credible relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. You have exceptional communication skills allow you to negotiate effectively and reach consensus with stakeholders, even when faced with competing project priorities and differing views on assessing business risks or issues.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
