Port of Seattle Director, Engineering Department Operations in Seattle, Washington
Some of what you'll be doing:
As the Director, Engineering Department Operations, you will lead a unified and centralized operations backbone, supervising and providing guidance to each group leader, each responsible for a critical function across the Engineering department and in collaboration with the operating divisions at the Port. You will also ensure the cohesive and strategic integration of administrative support, operations & finance, and contract administration to support the overall mission department.
You will lead, mentor, and coordinate a team of three branch managers/supervisors to ensure alignment with the Engineering Department’s goals.
You will develop strategies to integrate administrative support, operations & finance, and contract administration functions for optimal performance and support the needs of the department.
You will serve as a key advisor to the department leadership, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and decision-making.
You will create department policy ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and Port standards.
You will develop and implement strategic plans to align operations, drive innovative and continuous improvement, and implement technology to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness.
You will advocate for the department’s needs and priorities within the broader organizational context while collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless business execution.
You will ensure effective management of financial operations, budgeting, fleet, facilities, and asset management, in coordination with Corporate Finance & Budget department.
You will develop and monitor strategies for the efficient utilization of assets, fleet, and facilities to support engineering activities.
You will provide leadership for the contract function, including supporting the management of the procurement process for multi-year, complex service contracts. You will also ensure compliance with budgetary constraints, policies, and procedures in the management of contracts and service agreements.
You will coordinate with Engineering leadership to provide strategic direction on contract negotiation, administration, and closeout processes to mitigate risks and optimize outcomes.
You will establish and maintain robust communication and information-sharing systems to support collaboration and transparency internally and externally. You will also ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders.
Who you are:
Experienced – You have eight (8) years of experience in strategic planning, business processes, and/or process improvement and you have four (4) years of experience supervising staff and managing a function related to strategic planning, business processes, and/or process improvement.
Desired – We hope you have experience in design and construction environment.

What else you need to know:
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
