Google Director of Engineering, Fleet Infrastructure, Compute in Seattle, Washington

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15 years of experience in software engineering leadership.

  • Experience in cloud computing, distributed systems, virtualization, networking, storage, and security.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform or other major cloud provider.

  • Deep technical expertise in cloud computing, distributed systems, virtualization, networking, storage, and security, with experience in building large-scale distributed systems.

  • Strong understanding of customer needs and ability to translate them into technical requirements and solutions.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Proven track record of leading and managing high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Google’s ML, Systems and Cloud AI (MSCA) builds the foundation behind Google and Google Cloud’s compute and AI/ML offerings. We manage the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure.

Google Compute Engine (GCE) empowers its users with a comprehensive suite of VM and Baremetal instances for General-Purpose, Compute-Optimized, Memory-Optimized, Storage-Optimized and GPU/TPU-Accelerated Workloads. GCE is used by businesses of all sizes, from startups to Large Enterprises running AI/ML, Cloud Native and Mission Critical workloads. We work closely with hardware partners and Google’s engineering teams to harness the latest advancements in CPU (x86/ARM), Storage, Network, GPU/TPU virtualization, all backed by cutting-edge security, reliability, and performance.

You will lead an engineering team to deliver infrastructure that supports uncompromised reliability, consistent performance, and state-of-the-art maintenance experience across the entire GCE instance portfolio. You will be at the forefront of shaping the future of cloud computing, ensuring GCE remains the leading platform for the most demanding workloads. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers, driving the development and execution of GCE's technical roadmap.

  • Ensure all GCE systems are architected for exceptional reliability and performance - meeting the stringent demands of large-scale AI/ML clusters and mission-critical applications.

  • Lead the development of cutting-edge deployment architectures, instance types, and features to address the evolving needs of enterprise and AI/ML workloads.

  • Engage with top customers to understand their reliability, performance and disruption requirements, and tailor Google’s infrastructure systems ensuring customer satisfaction and adoption.

  • Collaborate with product management, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define and execute the GCE product strategy for reliability and disruption management.
