Uber Engineering Manager II - Personalization (Growth & Marketing) in Seattle, Washington

About the Role

The Growth & Marketing teams operate at the critical intersection of product and infrastructure, building technology to accelerate the fastest-growing company in history. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager II to lead the Marketing Personalization team. As an Engineering Manager II you will drive the technical vision, strategy, and execution for Uber's Marketing Personalization platform, enabling personalized recommendations and data-driven marketing experiences for billions of users. You will collaborate closely with Product, Applied Science, and Marketing teams to build scalable solutions that support personalized content delivery across multiple lines of business, including Uber Eats (Restaurant, Grocery & Retail), Rides, and more.

  • Lead and Scale : Manage, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Technical Vision : Define and execute the technical roadmap for the next-generation Personalization platform, driving advancements in recommendations, personalized content generation in the marketing domain.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work with Product, Applied Science, and CRM/Marketing teams to deliver impactful personalized marketing solutions that drive business growth.

  • Product Development : Oversee the design and development of highly scalable systems and infrastructure for delivering personalized marketing content in real time.

  • Innovation : Identify and drive new opportunities in AI/ML and data-driven personalization, enabling Uber to stay at the forefront of marketing technology.

  • Operational Excellence : Ensure system reliability, performance, and security at scale, supporting billions of personalized messages and experiences monthly.

  • Stakeholder Management : Work closely with leadership and partners to align priorities, resolve challenges, and deliver business value.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related technical field

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in an engineering leadership or management role.

  • Proven experience in designing, building, and scaling distributed systems.

  • Strong people management skills with experience mentoring and developing engineers.

  • Strong understanding of personalization and recommendation systems.

  • Experience with marketing technology, AI/ML systems, or personalization platforms is a plus.

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and marketing stakeholders.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
