Port of Seattle Financial Reporting & Controls Analyst II in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As the Financial Reporting & Controls Analyst II, you will be responsible to ensure accounting practices across all business operations comply with mandated accounting and auditing standards; pass annual audit scrutiny; and timely publish Port's annual financial and compliance reports.

  • You will perform extensive accounting research and independently perform internal control assessment to ensure Port's internal controls over accounting and financial reporting are effective and comply with standards established by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) framework which align with Federal/State regulations, Commission policies, and Executive priorities.

  • You will compile and organize research results to support conclusions for the accounting, financial reporting, system updates and operational changes required to comply with the new standards.

  • You will participate as a co-presenter and conduct training to AFR internal/external teams on new accounting and process changes from the implementation.

  • You will facilitate and oversee the enterprise-wide annual financial period year-end close process, which will involve coordination of multiple tasks including deliverables for the annual accounting close, auditor requested items, financial statements and footnotes support document, and regulatory compliance reports (i.e. Single Audit [Federal grants], Passenger Facility Charges [Federal Compliance] Audit, Net Revenues Schedules [bond covenants], and Financial Assurance Report for federal/state agencies).

  • You will troubleshoot and resolve independently or escalate issues identified in the weekly year end close status meeting.

  • You will serve as a designated liaison for the annual external audits for the Port of Seattle and the Northwest Seaport Alliance - North Harbor to ensure auditor questions are independently researched and resolved or escalated to appropriate decision makers.

  • You will prepare and produce sections of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report with high degree of complexity accurately and timely.

  • You will perform audits of key business processes independently to identify accounting and financial reporting internal control risks, while applying COSO and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards.

  • You will be a super-user of the external reporting software system, have full understanding of system functionality, set-up, configuration; troubleshoot system issues; manage upgrades and enhancements; ensure data integrity and output accuracy; auditability within the system by external auditors; and share know-how/expertise with other analysts on the team.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have four (4) years of experience in auditing and/or accounting operations and systems, including technical accounting research, internal controls assessment, and financial reporting.

  • Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or business administration. We hope that you have an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License.

  • Expertise – You have understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including the application of Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) or Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Government Accounting Auditing Standards (GAAS), and business operations and processes. You also are proficient in working with complex enterprise accounting and financial reporting systems and of the COSO framework.

  • Efficient Communicator – You possess effective verbal, written, and active listening communication skills. You can convey complex and technical details to individuals with varying degrees of technical knowledge and have excellent presentation skills.

  • Adaptable – You can manage multiple, concurrent priorities and you have strong time management skills including prioritizing work and meeting deadlines.

  • Analytical – You have analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and high level of accuracy by thorough self-review. You can exercise professional judgment in decision making and the ability to focus on pertinent and relevant information.

  • Technically Skilled – You have knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Suite, SharePoint, etc. You also have proficiency with advanced excel functions.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion and on an as-needed basis.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
