REPORTS TO: Facilities & Environmental Services Manager

COMPENSATION: $22.07 hourly

BENEFITS: Full-Time employees are covered by medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance/LT /AD&D. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 403b plan. Employees will also receive ten days of sick leave and ten days of vacation leave every year, twelve paid holidays and one floating holiday throughout the calendar year. ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a full-time Lead Event Support & Environmental Services Technician at SAM, you'll be the guardian of our museum's pristine appearances! Your meticulous eye for detail, combined with your can-do attitude, will make you an invaluable asset to our team. You'll have the opportunity to showcase your cleaning prowess and contribute to the magical ambiance that allows art to truly shine. This includes all areas of the museum, including galleries, hallways, inside/outside public spaces, meeting rooms, offices, and storage areas (as assigned) while maintaining the museum in a safe, clean, and attractive condition.

Work is performed both independently and in teams in accordance with facility standards and procedures. Event Support staff assist with the smooth and safe running of events at the Seattle Art Museum. They may perform roles such as event furniture setup and teardown, restroom and floor care maintenance before, during, and after the event, portering, manual work, and other general duties as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • This position is responsible for continuously demonstrating proficiency in basic cleaning skills and stocking that would be used in galleries, hallways, inside/outside public spaces, meeting rooms, offices, and storage areas. Interaction/contact with patrons or staff can vary from limited to high.

  • Perform room conversions according to written floor plan and/or direction from the ES Lead, Supervisor, Manager or event coordinator, paying special attention to the symmetry and cleanliness of the furniture and equipment used. Room conversions may include (but not limited to) setting or removing tables and chairs in accordance with event needs and provided checklists and floorplans.

  • Be a customer service model for other staff, volunteers, and visitors. Environmental Services delivers customer service by providing emergency spill response, environmental remediation, hazardous waste disposal, and industrial cleaning.

  • Perform daily janitorial duties associated with shift assignments which include the general cleaning of the Museum facility in assigned areas including (but not limited to): cleaning, dusting, and polishing of bathroom fixtures, counters, doors, furniture, high and low surfaces, partitions, sinks, showers, stainless steel, tables, walls, and woodwork; washing of mirrors, relight glass, and windows.

  • Pick up, transport and, removal of compost, recycling, and waste.

  • Hard surface floor care including dust mopping, sweeping, and wet mopping; carpet and upholstery care including spot cleaning and vacuuming.

  • May be expected to perform work operating cleaning equipment such as battery-powered electric and manual equipment, gas and electric blowers, mechanical floor polishers and scrubbers, brooms, dusters, vacuums and wet mops.

  • Cleans and maintains carts, equipment, and storage areas associated with position.

  • Consistently and routinely demonstrate both knowledge and skill in the safe use and operation of chemicals, equipment, and cleaning techniques necessary to maintain the departments established safety and quality standards.

  • Inspect the assigned work areas and reports any burnt out lights, non-working fixtures, graffiti, or minor damage such as scratches, gouges, and marks per departmental procedures.

  • Work with the Security Division in the protection of the building and its contents by immediately reporting anything out of the ordinary regarding the condition of the art, the integrity of locked or alarmed spaces and provide support during periods of severe weather, building or emergencies, and evacuations if necessary.

  • Assisting as necessary with the movement of equipment or materials during set up and break down of events, ensuring that events are setup in a timely manner and to the expectations of customer.

  • Assisting with the cleaning of an event site prior to and after close of the event, e.g. litter picking, cleaning and tidying. Restroom cleaning and porter service.

  • Perform various semi-skilled manual tasks such as operating; automatic floor scrubber, John Deere Gator vehicle.

  • Help to maintain event inventory.

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Minimum of (1) year experience in janitorial/environmental services in a commercial, institutional, or healthcare setting. Vocational training and certification will also be considered.

  • Excellent housekeeping skills with a sharp eye for detail.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic cleaning techniques, proper storage methods, inventory control, and ordering procedures.

  • Ability to gain knowledge of Museum policies and procedures as applicable to Environmental Services duties and knowledge of the protection and preservation of works of art.

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Ability to interact with the public and with co-workers professionally and tactfully.

  • Adhere to Museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.

  • Knowledge of Museum policies and procedures as applicable to custodial duties and preservation of works of art.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Work areas are primarily inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor sites. Position involves working with hazardous chemicals and cleaning agents.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Stationary Work: Approximately 95% of time is spent standing or moving around the work area. Balance of time (approximately 5%) is spent seated while working at a desk. Occasional extended periods of standing may be required when assisting at Museum events.

Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication in English with volunteers, donors, members, the public, and co-workers is necessary.

Moving: The ability to move up to thirty pounds on occasion is necessary for moving files, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to regularly position self to access files.

Office Work: Ability to effectively and regularly operate a computer, keyboard, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and printers, and ability to inspect, prepare and use paperwork, files, equipment, and supplies is necessary.
