Blue Origin LLC Mechanical Engineer - New Shepard Avionics in Seattle, Washington

This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. This position is in Blue Origin's exciting New Shepard program - we are flying people to space! As part of a hardworking team of diverse avionics engineers, you will design and develop ruggedized electronic enclosures, assemblies, and installations based on challenging requirements flowed down from system architects. You will create CAD models and design documentation with team collaboration and analysis. Analysis will include using structural FEA and thermal simulation tools, as well as evaluating fatigue, tolerance stack, and material properties. To be successful in this role, you will need to optimally perform these additional duties: author and review technical documents including drawings, analysis reports, and procedures; conduct and participate in design and readiness reviews; communicate technical information using verbal, written, and presentation formats; plan and conduct engineering validation tests; review and interpret results and data; perform design, material, and component trade studies and risk assessments; and diligently manage priorities and tasks to meet promised dates for deliverables. As a member of a highly collaborative and fast-paced organization, you will engage with personnel from other teams including Electrical, Systems, Manufacturing, Test Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Quality. Qualifications: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field 2+ years of recent experience designing high reliability mechanical assemblies Proven Mechanical design skills using 3-D CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks Strong understanding of mechanical engineering structural design and analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks' Standard Handbook, Shigley) Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent finite element analysis applications Competency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and familiarity with ASME Y14.5 Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering field Experience with PTC Creo 5.0 or equivalent, PTC Windchill PLM Proven experience designing and building electro-mechanical assemblies Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics Experience with environmental testing including vibration and shock Experience with aerospace, launch vehicle, or spacecraft mechanical and/or avionics systems Hands-on, practical mechanical abilities Flexibility and openness to tackling varied assignments and learning new skills
