Google Principal Engineer, Cloud Runtimes, Google Cloud in Seattle, Washington

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15 years of experience as a software engineer.

  • 10 years of experience in the areas of developer and operator productivity, virtualization, containers, serverless computing, high performance computing, data, security, and config/policy automation.

  • 5 years of experience working in a public cloud environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.

  • Experience influencing business leadership and technical VP/SVPs.

  • Experience partnering directly with external cloud customers.

  • Experience leading product development initiatives, creating successful enterprise software products and platforms, guided by customer empathy.

  • Experience mentoring and providing technical strategy for junior engineers.

As the Principal Engineer for Cloud Runtimes, you will lead and oversee infrastructure and product transformation efforts that broadly affect the Cloud Runtimes portfolio, particularly Cloud Run and GKE. This includes guiding use and application of Alphabet (including non-Cloud) infrastructure platforms and technologies (including open source where pertinent) in order to further product differentiation, reliability, and efficiency for our products and customers. As one of the most senior technical leaders on our team, you'll enable meaningful differentiation, exceptional reliability and efficiency, and Google Cloud customer and first-party integrator success on Cloud Runtimes products and platforms for a wide span of workloads including AI/ML. You will also be responsible for shaping the developer experience for Google Cloud customers on Cloud Runtimes products, particularly in how they interoperate with adjacent product experiences in Google Cloud.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Understand the systems architecture for the different products and platforms in the Cloud Runtimes infrastructure and product functions.

  • Collaborate with ATL and UTLs in Google Cloud to develop strategic roadmaps to address key opportunities in serving capabilities (including AI/ML), developer experience, efficiency, and reliability for Cloud Runtimes.

  • Lead the concept, design, and development of Cloud Runtimes technical innovations including opportunities for platform/component re-use across the portfolio, deeper integration of developer (Day1) and ops (Day2) experiences, and acceleration of capabilities that enable meaningful differentiation across the portfolio.

  • Act as a mediator and trusted neutral arbiter for complex and thorny architecture and product decisions that span product or execution area boundaries.

  • Drive engineering and operational excellence across the Cloud Runtimes portfolio, setting and improving KPIs related to reliability, efficiency, delivery, customer satisfaction, and adoption/consumption.
