The Department of Rehabilitation Division of Physical Therapy has an excellent opportunity for a full- time Clinical Education Specialist.

The Clinical Education Specialist will be the main contact for liaising with the Division of Physical Therapy (DPT), the Clinical Education Program’s contracted community partners, and working with students to ensure their engagement and progress through the Program. Clinical education experiences are incorporated throughout the DPT curriculum with most coming during the final stage of physical therapist training at the University of Washington. These experiences provide the model for mentored patient/practitioner interaction prior to graduation and licensure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work Collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Education, the Integrated Clinical Experience Coordinator, and the Spinal Cord Injury Transitions Coordinator (25%)

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationship with established and potential placement sites

  • Manage clinical site contracts

  • Develop clinical placement strategies

  • Manage confirmed clinical placementsImplement operational goals; independently set priorities for accomplishment on a day-to-day basis (75%)Goals may include, but are not limited to:

  • Programmatic communication

  • Track on boarding progress

  • Update clinical placement information in the Exxat database

  • Know and understand the strategic imperatives and initiatives of the Clinical Education Program. Build successful relationships at each site that will make it possible to successfully implement and monitor operational goals

  • Independently and collaboratively problem solve issues for the Director of Clinical Education, clinical sites, and the Physical Therapy Division or Rehabilitation Department leadership that would have negative impact upon effectiveness of the Clinical Education Program

  • Identify process improvement opportunities within the clinical education process

  • Track required student submissions related to clinical education

  • Represent the Clinical Education Program within and beyond the UW Community by assisting in developing working and project-based partnerships

  • Develop and maintain program infrastructure, including data management strategies and tools. As needed, the Clinical Education Specialist will research new technologies and upgrades to existing software and maximize the benefit of Clinical Education Program-managed systems

  • Understand all applicable program, School, University and State policies, procedures, and workflows as they relate to the Clinical Education Program and translate them for students, advise the Director of Clinical Education as to changes and interpretations, and propose program policies and processes to ensure compliance

  • Develop evaluation protocols and reports/ analyses of evaluation data to help guide the Director’s and Division’s strategic decision-making for the program

  • Conduct programmatic evaluations

  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures for the program

  • Anticipate potential issues, proactively develop mitigations, and know when to escalate issues to higher authority

  • Train team members on clinical on boarding and Clinical Education Program processes, including Exxat

  • Manage comprehensive and timely on boardings of students to clinical sites

  • Develop and improve internal systems and standards of communications to ensure student support MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • One year of project management or administrative coordination experience, preferably in a clinical and/or educational setting Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills

  • Accountability and initiative, especially in personal responsibility for major duties and process integrity

  • Excellent attention to details and deadlines

  • Database experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Internet applications

  • Prior experience working independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to multitask DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Program management experience

  • Experience with graduate-level professional training programs and/or clinical internship process, including on boarding to clinical sites and negotiation of affiliate agreements

  • Knowledge of legal compliance and resolution processes or equivalent education/experience
