The Central Circulation Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Public Services and Collection Maintenance Technician.

Under the general supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, the Public Services and Collection Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service to library users and participating in the collection maintenance of multiple library collections. The Public Services and Collection Maintenance Technician plays an essential role in the daily operations of the department by routinely analyzing and resolving complex bibliographic problems, performing search functions for missing items, participating in closing the building, preparing evidence for fine appeals, and backing up other positions as needed.

The regular schedule for this position is Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Fridays, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Public Services

  • Provides excellent customer service to library users at the circulation desk, via email, and telephone, including resolving complex circulation problems, interpreting and explaining library policies, and assisting users in locating materials using the libraries online catalog.

  • Processes search requests, coordinates claim return materials, and prepares evidence for appeals, while communicating with library users and other library units.

  • Assists with closing the building, addressing security or maintenance issues as they arise and reporting to the appropriate unit.Collection Maintenance

  • Processes new, remarked, and rebound materials into collections managed by Central Circulation Services and prepares them for circulation.

  • Identifies and corrects complex bibliographic errors and conflicting cataloging information in item records.

  • Searches missing items quarterly.Other Duties

  • Develops and documents procedures for the position.

  • Develops and maintains departmental web pages.

  • Serves as backup to the branch delivery driver and offsite storage retrieval functions.

  • Cross trains for other positions to gain basic troubleshooting skills for various positions and provide coverage for other team members.General

  • Understands and abides by the Libraries Personal Communication Responsibilities. Communicates appropriately, effectively and positively.

  • Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in Libraries and unit meetings, activities and events.

  • Works together with colleagues in a team environment.

  • Observes trends and reports to team members.

  • Recommends changes and improvements to team members regarding equipment, work processes, policies, and procedures.

  • Records and maintains statistics.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable library technical experience, including one year beyond the entry level requirement OR equivalent education/experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex services and policies in person, over the phone, and in written correspondence.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other staff as well as independently with direction.

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equitable access and service to a diverse community. Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

  • Familiarity with Ex Libris's Alma and Primo systems. CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

  • Must be able to lift 25-50 pound boxes and crates and push heavy book trucks.
