The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 330 full-time faculty members, 460 courtesy faculty members, and over 350 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $67 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development. Psychiatry is the third largest department in the School of Medicine and the largest non-divisioned department. The overall annual operations funding from all sources is over $130 million.

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator 1. POSITION PURPOSE Located within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on the Harborview campus, the SPIRIT (Supporting Psychosis Innovation through Research, Implementation, & Training) Center is a diverse group of researchers and trainers committed to improving the lives, wellbeing, and supportive care of individuals who are at risk of, or who experience, serious mental illness (SMI). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Training support, evaluation, and management

  • Coordinate MHI activities including participant recruitment, trainer reimbursement, supporting training sessions, responding to trainee needs, training evaluation, and website updates and management.Research and evaluation of existing projects

  • Assist with oversight on all aspects of research and evaluation projects, including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting. Specifically, coordinate research activities of two pilot research studies which will include refining interview guides and conducting quantitative and qualitative research data collection.

  • Administration tasks of all projects, including scheduling and coordinating meetings, data cleaning and management, managing participant incentives, and submitting and managing IRB applications.Production of academic products

  • Conduct literature reviews and monitor journals for publications relevant to ongoing research projects.

  • Assist with presenting research results in publishable form, including contribution to scientific manuscripts and scientific meeting presentations.Grant proposal submission and management

  • Assist with searching for funding announcements.

  • Assist in all related grant documents for proposal submission through collaborating with principal and co-investigators on developing research methods and data analytic plans.

  • Conduct literature reviews, and data analysis and writing project reports and deliverables.Human subjects

  • Create and coordinate human subject documents, reviews, modifications, and approvals. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Skill in balancing multiple demands simultaneously under time constraints.

  • Experience with coordinating online events, training, or other virtual activities for external participants.

  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills, particularly in the context of collaborating with and coordinating investigators and/or trainers from multiple organizations.

  • Excellent organizational skills including independently managing multiple tasks while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results.

  • Experience administering electronic surveys and managing data collection.

  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analyses.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with trainees, study participants, and community partners.

  • Ability to develop recruitment materials and maintain web-based resources and update.

  • Demonstrated experience and interest in understanding how to incorporate principles of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the mental health field.

  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working with underserved communities.

  • Experience conducting research and participant interviews.

  • Strong background in research coordination involving human subjects.

  • Knowledge of software applications including proficiency using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint, SPSS, REDCap.

  • Experience with grant preparation and reporting.
