As a senior manager on our Global Communications team, you lead and support in the implementation and measurement of high-impact, integrated communications plans across various disciplines within corporate communications, with a focus on litigation communications and the goal of protecting and elevating the Starbucks business and brand with all stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a passion for crisis communications with a drive to support and protect the brand. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that will require collaboration across multiple business groups to develop communication strategies that drive engagement and builds audience. As a key leadership function within the organization, you will also be expected to provide timely strategic communications counsel to all levels, including senior leaders. Passion about media relations is a must, as this role is critical to serving as an advocate and defender of the company’s reputation, with critical issues and crisis communications responsibilities.

We are looking for someone who leads through our Starbucks Mission, Promises & Values and has a track record of achieving excellence through delivering on priorities with a keen eye for problem-solving. That means:

  • Experience working closely as a trusted expert with senior leaders and legal teams, including internal and external counsel, to identify needs, define strategy, develop action plans, identify deliverables, present results, measure outcomes, and provide recommendations.

  • A proven track record of operating with a bias for action in a rapid response environment.

· Serving as the day-to-day lead for litigation communications for the company, developing key messages and engaging with reporters as needed.

· Developing communications campaign materials, including key messages, press releases, Q&As, fact sheets, timelines, and presentations to further elevate the corporate reputation of Starbucks.

· Responding to a diverse range of global communications responsibilities including, but not limited to regulation, policy, labor relations, ethics and compliance, and litigation. Implementation of proactive and reactive plans to contribute to the successful positioning of the brand and business in a fast-moving environment.

· Overseeing day-to-day media relations, develop communications materials, manage media interviews and contribute to global media lists in support of increasing Starbucks profile and visibility around the world.

· Creating and managing internal practices to enhance the global coordination and alignment of communications activities and continuously seek opportunities to evolve the function to anticipate the changing business landscape.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a preferred minimum of 7 years of advanced experience in consulting and working with senior leaders in the design, development, and execution of litigation and crisis communications strategies and initiatives.

  • Preferred minimum of 7 years leading a high-performing team and agency partners

  • A solid understanding of the legal process and the communications needs required to support high-stakes litigation. The ideal candidate has worked in and understands the regulatory environment associated with supply chain, food service and retail, including animal welfare.

  • Experience establishing collaborative initiatives with multiple departments.

  • Demonstrated project management experience, providing effective oversight across the design, delivery, and outcome stages.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, work independently, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, a proven track record of building strong collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND, or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
