New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers you will tackle existing material problems for various spaceflight systems and share in the team's impact on all aspects of New Shepard. You will review production drawings for large complex assemblies, develop processes, select materials, and define design requirements. We work closely with Quality, Design, Structures, Thermal, Integration, and Manufacturing to optimize designs and processes. Your broad experience in materials & processes for metallics (e.g. forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, corrosion, coating, brazing, anodization, welding, passivation), composites, and non-metallics (e.g. o-rings, seals, lubricants) will be impactful to the team as we refine processes and engineering designs. Specific to this role we are seeking an M&P engineer that has significant experience designing, building, and repairing large-scale composite aerospace structures. This will include qualification, development, and improvement of process specifications of composite hardware. Shifts available: 1st shift Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Develop new and robust manufacturing processes and transition into production. Create test plans, specifications, and other documentation for the development of flight hardware. Support activities to implement new processes and hardware, including tooling and equipment reviews. Provide technical and design for manufacturability guidance to ensure producibility of new hardware. Qualify internal and external processes. Review documentation to ensure compliance to hardware requirements internally and at external suppliers. Work with multi-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce aerospace hardware. Assist in addressing and dispositioning nonconformances. Find opportunities for improvements to quality, cost, and schedule. Coach, mentor, and technically assist other engineers. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant field from ABET accredited school. 8+ years' experience with polymer based composite fabrication process development and process qualification.
