Role Summary

The Senior Product Manager is a subject matter expert responsible for crafting the vision and backlogs across multiple product verticals. As an individual contributor, this role presents options for the long-term strategy for their products to key stakeholders and exercises considerable judgement and initiative to solve complex problems. This role will work closely with business stakeholders and external vendors to deliver features that support company objectives. The ideal candidate can support and maintain multiple legacy applications while managing a roadmap of new initiatives aimed at modernizing those legacy applications.

Key Duties

  • Responsible for the vision and direction for their products.

  • Responsible for the creation, communication, and maintenance of the product roadmap and backlog to ensure visibility and transparency of work planned.

  • Responsible for the creation of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). Ability to communicate progress to leadership and explain why key results are/or are not being achieved.

  • Make decisions and maintains a value-based prioritized backlog of opportunities for products which align to Alaska’s business strategy and goals. Exercise considerable judgment to make key tradeoff decisions.

  • Develops business cases and economic models backed by data. Use product discovery techniques to move from idea to prototype.

  • Utilizes data, including transactional data, usage statistics, and industry analyst reports to inform prioritization and solutions.

  • Deliver results for key product metrics and goals that supports business objectives.

  • Ensure timely communication of upcoming releases and engineering requirements with stakeholder consumable descriptions.

  • Facilitate Release Readiness reviews, Go/No-Go decisions, and ongoing service operational quality discussions.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with stakeholders across the organization to communicate status, align priorities, and ensure operational support for go to market plans.

  • Engages in constructive conversations with - and deliver tough messages when needed - to key stakeholders, including senior executives, while continually building professional and productive relationships.

  • Stays current with industry trends as well as competitors’ enterprise software capabilities.

  • Develops user stories granular enough to be achieved in a single sprint, elaboration of Epics and Features, creating and maintaining the product backlog, supporting user and application testing and coordinating release activities.

  • Coordinates new and changed functionality with affected business groups to ensure seamless rollout of new capabilities.

  • Maintains awareness of third-party capabilities that provide viable product solutions. Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in a product management role, or equivalent work experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Management, Marketing, Business, Digital Platforms, or a related field; or an additional 2 years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Experience working directly with back-office enterprise systems and applications.

  • Experience managing external vendors to deliver technology solutions.

  • Strong familiarity with enterprise software development, with proven ability to partner with business stakeholders and vendors.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, coupled with a history of building strong cross-functional relationships.

  • Proven record managing digital products in a complex technical environment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the airline and/or travel industries and related technologies.

  • Deep working knowledge of agile product development concepts.

Salary Range

$112,000 - $168,000 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
