Amazon Software Development Manager, Shipping and Delivery Support (SDS) - Tech in Seattle, Washington

Description

We're looking for an experienced Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead the development of the next generation of driver support software systems. This is a high-impact role where you'll shape the technology powering one of the most complex customer service operations in the world. As the SDM, you'll independently own and deliver the software that supports our global network of delivery drivers. You'll lead a skilled team through the full software lifecycle - from designing conversational AI solutions to deploying and maintaining mission-critical systems.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of software engineering leadership experience, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, customer-facing systems at scale. Strong technical background, agile expertise, and exceptional interpersonal skills are a must. Experience with large language models (LLMs) or conversational AI will be highly valuable.

Key job responsibilities

• Define the technical strategy and roadmap to meet evolving driver and business needs

• Make complex architectural and feature decisions, balancing short-term requirements with long-term goals

• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, science, and operations teams to drive innovation

• Mentor and develop your engineering team, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement

• Optimize software delivery, anticipating and mitigating risks within a highly complex, distributed system

• Effectively communicate the team's vision and rationale to stakeholders at all levels

The Shipping and Delivery Support (SDS) Tech team provides value by combining expertise in Amazon Transportation Services with the scale and support infrastructure of Worldwide Customer Service to ensure successful deliveries, gather intelligence to prevent future delivery problems, and automate resolution without requiring human intervention.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
