Amazon Sr. Data Engineer, Content Systems in Seattle, Washington

As a Sr. Data Engineer in Content Systems, you will design best-in-class data infrastructure and build the data engines that fuel these billion-dollar opportunities. You will play a pivotal role in enabling Amazon to make data-driven decisions and maximize the impact of our goals and initiatives. You will also be responsible for creating new metrics and analytics tools to measure customer engagement and uncover opportunities for growth.

You will work as part of the Content Platform engineering team—collaborating closely with product managers, data scientists, business analysts, and senior leaders. In this role, you will partner with teams across Amazon to create an authoritative, unified view of marketing investments and customer impact across Amazon Stores. You will own the design and management of data pipelines capable of processing data at Amazon scale, ensuring efficiency, security, scalability, and effective reporting. You will be expected to take on a leadership role within the team, define your vision, and collaborate with engineers to deliver on it.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design and build the foundational data infrastructure and capabilities for the Content Systems org.

  • Build and manage large scale data pipelines that efficiently and safely process big data.

  • Work with business stakeholders to define and compute complex metrics for content performance and financial attributions.

  • Guide development teams and business intelligence engineers on data best practices.

A day in the life

This is a role that involves partnering closely with other technical leaders, senior leaders, product managers, scientists and influencing business decisions and direction. It requires leading data infrastructure design and delivering business metrics by guiding development teams across Content Systems and its clients. One day you may be driving a data infrastructure design, and another you may be leading delivery for a complex data pipeline deployment, or creating new business metrics. You may be plugged into an important operational issue that is impacting the analytics of the Store, influencing your org to make the best decision for the customers.

About the team

Content Platform Performance team owns the Symphony content performance data. It provides the services and technologies that assesses the attributes and performance of marketing campaigns created for Amazon via Symphony.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

  • Experience mentoring team members on best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

  • Experience operating large data warehouses

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $139,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $240,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
