Amazon’s Global Owned Content and Channels team is looking for an email marketing manager to help build and optimize Amazon’s growing external email channels, including About Amazon’s weekly U.S. subscriber newsletter, Amazon News, and our reputational emails to customers. Our team sits within Amazon's communications organization, and exists to inform and inspire readers with trustworthy stories from Amazon.

This role requires technical and operational knowledge of email service provider platforms (ESPs) and safe send requirements, audience targeting and segmenting best practices, competency with data and analytics and the ability to develop and analyze A/B testing plans and share results on a weekly basis, basic email template coding and editing skills, and organized project management skills. Strong communication skills and a flair for creativity and inventiveness is also highly valued.

Key job responsibilities

• Owning the end-to-end programming of About Amazon’s weekly email newsletter to U.S. readers, including pitching stories for inclusion, sourcing and sizing images, planning A/B tests, building and QAing the send template, and pulling and analyzing results on a weekly basis.

• Being the technical and operational expert on safe send practices and email service provider set up and maintenance. Must be able to dive deep on audience segmentation and engagement metrics to ensure the health of our sending domain and subscriber base, and pull in necessary support to troubleshoot issues. IP warming experience is highly preferred.

• Ability to code/edit basic HTML email templates, with CSS knowledge.

• Building a testing roadmap, and setting up A/B tests for weekly newsletter email sends and mass customer email sends, and communicating results to leadership.

• Being the subject matter expert for setting up audience targeting parameters for multiple email service providers, including Amazon’s proprietary in-house distribution tools.

• Creating workback schedules and managing key project timelines. Inventing and simplifying workflows.

• Building relationships with team leads and stakeholders across the company.

• Writing reports and insights for circulation among larger team, and strategizing ideas for email subscriber growth and creative and messaging optimization.

• Maintaining email marketing compliance with applicable laws and regulations (eg: CAN-SPAM and GDPR) and uphold best practices for data privacy and security.

We’re looking for someone who is technically proficient in email marketing and newsletter management, and who is creative, detail-oriented, data-driven, and customer-centric. If you’re a seasoned digital marketer who is passionate about email, great storytelling, and effective in developing stakeholder support, plus, you are technically proficient in HTML/CSS, email targeting and audience segmentation, and data analytics, we have an amazing opportunity for you.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience

  • 6+ years of developing and managing acquisition marketing or channel programs experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements

  • Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables)

  • Experience building, executing and scaling cross-functional marketing programs

  • Experience developing and executing campaigns across a multitude of timezones and languages

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience driving direction and alignment with large cross-functional teams and agency partners

  • Experience designing and executing joint marketing plans with strategic alliance partners with global footprint

  • Knowledge of HTML at the intermediate level

  • Experience communicating results to senior leadership

  • Previous experience in IP or subdomain warming and platform migration. Experience with email personalization highly valued.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
