The College of the Environment has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Wildlife Field Technician (Research Aide 1 (NE H NI CNU)) to join their team. Tentative start date of 10/7/2024 or soon afterwards. Position will be for up to 400 hours or approximately 10 weeks.

The University of Washington is seeking a dedicated individual to assist with a camera trapping study of wildlife in Washington State Parks. All field work will be done in 8 western Washington State Parks and on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington. This work will support research focused on how human recreation may influence wildlife activity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • driving to state parks

  • collecting camera traps that have been deployed.

  • hiking to the locations, using tree steps to climb trees, and then managing the camera as needed at each site.

  • maintaining data records

  • reviewing and labeling camera trap images MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years college credits with major study in engineering or science, OR two years work experience equivalent to that performed by a research aide; possession of a motor vehicle operator's license required. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • experience with camera trapping

  • experience using navigation tools, GPS and compass

  • experience hiking and carrying heavy packs

  • knowledge of Pacific Northwest wildlife

  • comfortable working alone and in small groups WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Schedule is flexible but will include some long days in the field.
