About the job

CORE Electric Cooperative is seeking two Electrical Designer to join our Distribution Engineering Team, reporting to the Distribution Engineering Manager located in our Sedalia Office. This role is responsible for the engineering tasks related to design, construction, and inspection of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities for new consumer, consumer upgrade, and system improvement projects.

This is a Non-exempt onsite position at our Sedalia office, located at 5496 N. U.S. Highway 85, Sedalia, CO 80135 no remote or hybrid work options available.

This is a union position, subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and governed by CORE's rules, regulations, policies, and applicable state and federal law.

You will...

  • Develop a working knowledge of CORE policies & procedures, design standards, rates & regulations, and construction standards while working with higher level staff.

  • Develop working knowledge of NESC and NEC requirements.

  • Develop technical expertise in the engineering and construction practices for low and medium voltage overhead and underground distribution systems.

  • Perform engineering and inspections for new construction, upgrades, and system improvement projects under the guidance of higher-level staff.

  • Prepare engineering and staking documents which include drawings, calculations, construction costs, and outlines of required work, including a list of materials needed to complete the projects.

  • Meet with new and existing members, builders, developers, electricians, and engineering firms to determine electrical power requirements.

  • Conduct predesign meetings, preconstruction meetings, and final walk throughs of completed projects.

  • Inspect work performed by construction crews to ensure construction meets design requirements, company specifications & standards and NESC & NEC requirements.

  • Develop a working knowledge of CORE policies & procedures, design standards, rates & regulations, and construction standards while working with higher level staff.

  • Maintain financial control on projects.

  • Coordinate the installation of overhead and underground systems.

  • Prepare project change orders and submit to the customer in a timely manner.

  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries by inspectors and construction personnel.

  • Complete as-builts within a timely manner to meet contract requirements.

  • Document all inquiries and other correspondences from customer and uploads into CORE's document management system.

  • Provide weekly status updates in CORE's work management system for projects in design, construction, and as-built.

  • Review customer provided site development plans, electrical one-lines, and panel schedules to calculate load and transformer requirements.

  • Identifies easement and permitting requirements, communicate requirements to the customer.

  • Ensure executed easements, final plats, and etc. have been received prior to the start of construction.

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate is required.

  • Associate degree in related field or at least 5 years of industry experience is required.

  • Requires valid Colorado driver's license with satisfactory driving record within CORE standards.

  • Competent with position-specific software and applications.

  • Competent with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint.

  • Competent with general office equipment.
