Job Description:

Position Summary:

This role is responsible to manage the maintenance functions to include facility/building and equipment maintenance to ensure a safe and secure facility. Plans, organizes, supervises, and coordinates the activities of the facility maintenance operations. May work within a non-union or union environment depending on assigned location.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the facility and equipment maintenance including, but not limited to the material handling equipment (MHE), buildings, grounds, water, refrigeration systems, fire systems and utility and distribution systems, as well as related labor and budget management.

  • Oversee, or participate in the process to solicit and review bids and manage outside contractors for maintenance/mechanical work as necessary.

  • Conduct audits/inspections to ensure all aspects of required government compliance related to safety and environmental laws, and Company standards, are achieved/maintained (i.e., OSHA, EPA, Risk Management Plan Rule (RMP)/Clean Air Act, etc.).

  • Manage the preventive maintenance programs of MHE, building and refrigeration systems and documentation of preventative and corrective maintenance records for related assets in the required software program(s).

  • Work closely with the warehouse operations and corporate engineering department to manage any expansion or construction project and ensure communication of facility projects with operations/warehouse associates.

  • Ensure the health, safety, cleanliness, and security of the work environment. This may include but is not limited to:

  • Maintain the physical condition of the warehouse facility and ensure equipment is in proper working condition. Ensure procedures for the efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment is followed; address any issues or concerns promptly.

  • Promote and reinforce safety awareness; report and/or address any issues or work-related injuries.

  • Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with warehouse management, transportation and/or vendors to determine department priorities, projects and planning of such in conjunction with the priority needs of the warehouse mechanics and to ensure prompt and timely resolution of any maintenance/mechanical issues.

  • Responsible for the Maintenance operations P&L to include, but not limited to, expense and capital budgeting, cost controls, revenue and productivity objectives, and operational execution.

  • Also responsible for equipment utilization; identify overall opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies and continuous improvement.

  • Develop, maintain and update policies, procedures and processes to improve operational efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Communicate and/or implement approved/required changes to management and maintenance department.

  • Participate in labor relations negotiations and renewal of contracts, recommend contract changes, administer union contracts and manage union matters, and/or grievance and arbitration procedures as required.

  • Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.

  • Maintain current knowledge of legal regulations, industry trends and best practices within Facility Maintenance/Mechanics operations; make recommendations to improve current processes and to ensure company legal compliance (i.e., OSHA, EPA, etc.)

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Associate degree (Required) in Engineering (or bachelor's degree) in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years facility maintenance experience.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and must be available on-call during evening and weekend hours as needed to address issues (i.e., equipment breakdowns, weather emergencies, etc.); general schedule is Monday – Friday.

  • Two years supervisory/management experience.

  • In-depth working knowledge/understanding of operating/support industrial equipment, building maintenance, refrigerating systems and environmental regulations.

  • Experience in complying with OSHA/EPA/RMP standards and requirements.

  • Must have completed or be willing to complete Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA) classes/certification upon hire, if required (based on location).

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration maintenance, and Square-Rigger program or similar software preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong planning, project management, organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Good leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands-on environment.

  • Good analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and business acumen skills.

  • Ability to work across business units and with vendors.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • May be required to travel between locations, up to 50%, if supporting multiple locations.

While performing the duties of this position, employees are subject to a warehouse environment and may frequently be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity based on assignment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, days and night hours, and overtime as necessary and as assigned, and must be able to work in the condition specified for 8-10 hours shift as assigned. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
