Job Title: FPGA Engineer

Job Description

This sub family is responsible for the research, design, and development of electrical equipment and systems. Duties may include conducting experiments and evaluating results in the following areas: radar and radiation detection equipment, radio, television, and other communications circuitry components, analog and digital computers, and control/test equipment. This role influences the development of solutions that impact strategic project/program goals and business results. It recommends and develops new technical solutions, products, and/or standards in support of functions, strategy, and operations. The FPGA Engineer leads and manages the work of other technical staff, significantly impacting project results and outputs. The role resolves highly complex problems using significant application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation. It develops solutions that are highly innovative and achieved through research and integration of best practices. Communication with executive leadership internally or clients regarding matters of significant importance to the organization/project is required. The role works to convince others to accept current practices and agree to new concepts, practices, and approaches.

Hard Skills

Must Have:

  • Experience in FPGA system design

  • Familiarity with modern Xilinx FPGA families and design tools (7-series FPGAs, Ultrascale+, Vivado)

  • Familiarity with C or C++

  • Experience with multiple high-speed serial communication standards and interfaces (e.g. Aurora, 10Ge, PCIe, JESD204B)

  • Experience with standard internal interfaces such as AXI4, AXI4-Stream, AXI4-Lite

  • Proficiency with VHDL and TCL

Soft Skills

  • Ability to communicate with executive leadership

  • Problem-solving and innovative solution development

  • Team leadership and management

Work Environment

The majority of the work takes place in a laboratory setting, utilizing desks and benches equipped with various tools and testing devices. While there may be occasional assignments at a desk, about 90% of the time is spent directly handling the hardware. There is a lot of interaction with a 15-member team. This role supports the design and development of automated test processes and firmware for production PCBs.
