Johnson Controls Trade Compliance Manager in Shanghai, China

Job Summary:

The Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the company complies with all international trade regulations and laws. This role involves managing import/export activities, conducting risk assessments, and developing policies to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., customs, export controls, and sanctions). The Trade Compliance Manager works closely with internal stakeholders, including legal, logistics, and procurement teams, to minimize risks and avoid legal penalties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Compliance: Monitor, interpret, and ensure compliance with global trade regulations, including export controls, customs regulations, and sanctions.

  • Customs and Import/Export Documentation: Oversee the preparation and submission of all required import/export documentation to ensure timely and compliant shipments.

  • Trade Audits and Risk Management: Conduct internal audits and assessments to identify risks and areas for improvement in trade compliance procedures.

  • Develop and Implement Policies: Create and enforce internal trade compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory changes and company goals.

  • Training: Provide regular training and guidance to employees on trade compliance topics to ensure awareness and adherence to company policies and international regulations.

  • Liaison with Regulatory Authorities: Act as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third parties regarding trade compliance matters.

  • Maintain Records: Ensure that all trade compliance documentation is maintained and updated in accordance with legal and company requirements.

  • Stay Updated on Regulations: Stay informed of the latest developments in trade laws and regulations that could impact the business.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Law, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in trade compliance, customs regulations, or a related field, preferably in a multinational environment.

  • Certifications: Certifications such as CUSECO (Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer) or equivalent are preferred.

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR, OFAC), tariff classifications, and customs documentation processes.

  • Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in using trade compliance software and tools.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations.

  • Languages: Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
