The Firefighter/Medic position earns a competitive starting salary of $54,056, increasing with seniority to $96,544 after five years. The Firefighter/Medic Trainee position earns a starting salary of $48,945 annually.

Firefighter/Medics within the Shelby Township Fire Department must have a Michigan paramedic's license and Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications. If you do not have these certifications, you can still apply as a Firefighter/Medic Trainee.
Trainees must have a Michigan paramedic's license *or *Firefighter I and Firefighter II with EMT certifications. As a trainee with the Shelby Township Department, the township pays for your full certification. Trainees with Firefighter I & II certifications and an EMT license will go to paramedic school. Trainees with a paramedic license will go to the fire academy.

We provide our community with fire suppression, Advanced Life Support transportation, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, dive and swift water rescue, a rescue task force, tactical response teams, fire prevention, arson investigation, emergency management, and public education.
