This position may be filled by detail or promotion of a permanent classified employee of the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs.

Extensive travel to Caddo, Bossier, Claiborne, Bienville, De Soto, Red River, Natchitoches,

Sabine.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any of the following will qualify:

  1. A master's degree in social work plus three years of professional social services experience.

  2. A master's degree in criminal justice; education with a concentration in special education or guidance and counseling; family life education (child development or early childhood education); psychology; sociology; applied sociology; vocational education; pastoral counseling; counseling; vocational rehabilitation counseling; vocational rehabilitation; rehabilitation counseling; or human development counseling plus three years of professional social services experience.

  3. A baccalaureate degree in social work plus four years of professional social services experience.

  4. A baccalaureate degree plus five years of professional social services experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS (FOR OPTION 4 ONLY):

Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree.

Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:

A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.

College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment may be required.

NOTE:

Some positions may require regulation as a Registered Social Worker (RSW), Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

NOTE:

The baccalaureate or master's degree in social work must be from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, 1701 Duke Street, Suite 200 Alexandria, VA 22314.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:

Supervises a unit of professional social services staff who will provide protective services to adults with disabilities.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Broad review from a higher-level professional or administrator.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Direct over Adult Protection Specialists. May supervise other professional, paraprofessional or clerical employees.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Typically, the Department of Health and Hospitals.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Adult Protection Specialist 3 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibilities.

EXAMPLES LISTED BELOW INCLUDE BRIEF SAMPLES OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Provides direct supervision of Adult Protection Specialists through supervisory conferences, case staffing, unit conferences, multi-disciplinary team staffing, on-the-job training case consultation, review of completed work assignments, etc.

Orients new staff regarding civil service, agency, local office, and unit policies and procedures, ensures that staff complete training requirements.

Determines work assignments, coordinates work flow and duty assignments of employees; monitors workers' productivity and activity in an effort to assure minimal compliance with agency policies and procedures.

Assesses ongoing staff training needs; plans and presents staff development programs to meet ongoing training needs. Reviews, evaluates, and counsels with employees regarding work performance. May recommend the implementation of disciplinary action of an employee.

Conducts education presentations or in-service trainings for community groups, agencies, providers, etc. on adult abuse, neglect, exploitation, and extortion on the role of Adult Protective Services. Organizes and manages the regional coordinating council.

Participates in statewide staff meetings.
