Food and Drug Administration Biologist in Silver Spring, Maryland

Summary

This Direct Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), in Silver Spring, MD. This Direct Hire recruitment with the Food and Drug Administration is to fill positions based on a critical hiring need resulting from the outbreak and spread of the "Coronavirus Disease 2019" (COVID-19), which has caused a public health emergency.

Responsibilities

Serves as a Biologist and senior research assistant responsible for a full range of research experiments in support of the laboratory. Researches and evaluates policy issues that are central to the mission of CBER in the area of biology. Advises on compliance and regulatory policy developments and/or implementation of activities related to scientific reviews of license applications and amendments/supplements relating to biological products. Interprets, adapts and applies numerous guidelines, precedents and scientific principles and practices to determine the most appropriate and feasible design solutions as well as possible alternatives. Interprets and evaluates experimental data, drafts and/or collaborates with co-investigators to submit manuscripts to scientific journals and other related professional publications. Presents original research data at scientific meetings.

Qualifications

The position of Biologist falls under the 0401 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet the following: Basic Requirements A. Have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. - OR - B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Specialized experience: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 in the Federal Service to include experience (1) Developing, implementing, and managing all experiments and protocols being studied; (2) Advising on compliance and regulatory policy developments or the implementation of activities related to scientific reviews of license applications; AND (3) Identifying, defining or selecting specific problems for study.
