Job Summary

Drafting Technician performs superior electronic outputs including plans, layouts, CAD models, drawings, manufacturing fixtures, and supports release activities for associated design artifacts. Completes major cable layout drawings prepared by others while following internal and industry design practices. Assists in preliminary concept reviews that require CAD models, engineering design prototypes and subsequent conversion to production components.

Primary responsibilities:

• Performs basic to moderately complex drafting duties under general supervision to assist engineers with all activities related to part, assembly, and installation engineering models and drawings. Instructions may be provided verbally, in sketches, existing hardware, and received from mechanical/electrical engineering or other technical support personnel.

• Assists with drafting detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for projects to ensure conformance to specifications.

• Applies Company, Industry, and Contractual standards during the preparation of hardware design and documentation data.

• Grows, maintains, and applies Company, Industry/Government, and Contractual standards for design and documentation requirements to support the completion of assigned tasks.

• CAD/drawing

• Plans, lays-out, draws, and revises detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, references, and data.

• Completes details of major layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices using computer aided design systems.

• Develops design drawings according to engineering sketches and proposal specifications.

• May assist engineering in determining and employing proper specifications for materials, finishes and processes, connectors, or other mechanical/electrical components during the design process.

• Determines drafting views, datums, dimensions, sectioning, and applicable reference lines and design details.

• Check

• May support check activities on change definition artifacts for revisions for existing design and drawing/documentation.

• Consistently checks own work for alignment to internal and external standards.

• Release

• Prepares reports on project activities, complete production detail hardware drawings including records and design documentation for release into the SEPDM.

• Assists engineering in the preparation of data and documentation during the revision of released artifacts SEPDM.

Basic Qualifications:

• HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

• OR In the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 4 years of relevant experience is required.

• U.S. Citizenship Required

• Knowledge in Mechanical Hardware design fundamentals

• Experience with and general understanding of design methodologies

• Intermediate experience in SolidWorks and SEPDM

• Ability to construct mechanical designs using CAD tools with full PMI.

• Knowledge of GD&T application principals with certification preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Working knowledge of Solidworks and SEPDM

• Knowledgeable with ASME specifications

• Knowledge of the design of cables and harness including wire routing capability within CAD assemblies

• Past experience working on government/military programs
