University of Maine System Community Education Assistant CL1 - Somerset County in Skowhegan, Maine

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Community Education Assistant (CEA) CL1 for Somerset County with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension is a full-time, fiscal-year, soft-money funded position. Cooperative Extension’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) serves low-income families and youth throughout the state of Maine. EFNEP has been delivered nationally since 1969. The CEA is responsible for delivering direct nutrition education to low-income adults with children, low-income young adults, and to low-income children in group settings in the community of Franklin County. This work requires extensive time providing nutrition education in the community and/or remotely, and skills in forming and maintaining community partnerships. This work requires judgment, initiative, and commitment to confidentiality. This work will often be done in partnership with county-based colleagues within Cooperative Extension. Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, soft-money funded. Daily work hours work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position pays $16.84/hour, or applicable transfer rate.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

  • Approximately one year of community outreach / education or other related experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively using oral, written and electronic methods.

  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as Google Drive and document management software.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment as well work effectively as part of a team, and able to achieve and document measurable results.

  • Willingness to learn how to deliver food and nutrition education programs to adults and children in the community setting.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of University of Maine Cooperative Extension and its educational programs.

  • Interest and ability in food, nutrition and/or cooking.

  • Familiarity with food assistance programs (i.e., food banks, food pantries, SNAP, WIC), and public health organizations in Franklin county.

  • Experience working with diverse audiences; knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion; and understanding of equal opportunity, affirmative action and civil rights policies.
