Position Summary

Slippery Rock University ( SRU ), a regional public master’s university and member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Business.

The Position: The Dean of the College of Business is responsible for the academic leadership of the College, and reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The dean will develop a forward-looking vision for the College in line with the institution’s strategic plan and will provide strong and effective leadership for its programs and faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to lead strategic and long-range planning efforts and work with others to implement change including fostering faculty development, encouraging, strengthening, and broadening alumni and community relations and collaborations with industries and organizations, advancing the College’s successful development/fundraising programs, and promoting international partnerships.

The job requires strong administrative and leadership skills, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, and effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. The Dean will enhance academic program offerings and ensure outcomes are assessed, and accreditations and facilities are maintained, lead initiatives to recruit students as well as increase enrollment and retention, manage employee relations in a unionized environment, advance the University’s commitment to excellence in teaching, form an effectual College Board of Visitors, and participate as a colleague to advance the direction of Academic Affairs and the University.

The College: The College of Business comprises the departments of Communication, Media, and Sport Management; Finance, Accounting, Marketing, and Economics; Management; Safety Management; and the Military Science ( ROTC ) program. It houses approximately 1900 majors and 70 faculty members. The School of Business is AACSB -accredited, the Sport Management program is COSMA -accredited, and the Safety Management is QAP - BCSP - approved. Programs are offered on campus, online, and in China through a shared program with the Quanzhou University of Information Engineering ( QUIE ).

Location: Slippery Rock University’s campus comprises more than 660 rolling acres in one of western Pennsylvania’s most beautiful areas. Slippery Rock offers historic charm in a small-town setting. Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution

  • A distinguished record of teaching, scholarly achievement, and professional accomplishments sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the college’s departments

  • Five years of higher education administrative experience at the department chair level or above with evidence of strong leadership and negotiation skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with administrators, faculty and staff

  • Knowledge of a wide range of programs outside of the traditional business programs

  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

  • Successful performance in an on-campus interview and presentation

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in development of innovative programs, distance learning, and collaborative endeavors

  • Managerial experience in a collective bargaining institution

  • Successful fundraising experience and development of corporate partnerships

  • Experience fundraising in a capital or comprehensive campaign environment

  • Experience with AACSB accreditation

  • A demonstrated ability to align budget goals with strategic planning initiatives
