The Maintenance Manager – Turnarounds & Shutdowns will oversee the management of maintenance shutdowns, slowdowns, and turnarounds for all production, process, and utilities equipment at the Covington Facility. This position is responsible for leading cross-functional teams in the execution of all Plant Shutdown, Turnaround and slow-down efforts, including establishing Shutdown strategies, procedures and developing/managing Shutdown scope, schedules, and budgets using established Project Management Methodologies (PMM). This position manages and drives safe and cost effective execution of large shutdowns, slowdowns, and turnarounds to maximize efficiency and productivity to meet business objectives. This includes day-to-day maintenance and operational support, systems shutdowns, building shutdowns, site shutdown, continuous improvement projects for maintenance/engineering, shutdown scheduling and vendor management through strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and cGMP's in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing facility. This position will also be on-call at all times to respond to plant-wide emergencies and manufacturing needs.

Key Accountabilities:

SHUTDOWN:

Establish and drive fulfillment of plant shutdown, slowdown, and turnaround deadlines following Corporate Shutdown guidelines and playbook. Facilitate Shutdown Steering Committee meetings and manage correspondence with this group. Direct the Shutdown team to identify, plan, and lead the execution of work for shutdowns and other large routine or opportunity shutdowns to be on schedule and budget. Will own the Plant’s shutdown schedule and deliver upon it. Work closely with Maintenance and Reliability to identify all maintenance activities that require partial or full plant shutdown. Work closely with Manufacturing and Supply Chain leadership to coordinate shutdown activities with production schedules. Work closely with procurement to proactively establish strategy for resourcing external services and purchasing/expediting of materials. Direct the Shutdown team to focus on continuous improvement aimed at optimizing efficiency through exceptional preparation and execution of shutdown activities. Liaise with all focal points to get the required information for effective plans. Plan and integrate work scope into logically integrated turnaround plans. Manage changes in work scope. Resolve prioritization issues in consultation with the appropriate personnel. Ensure production readiness, including:

  • Development of operating activities for the shutdown and start-up of the facility. Ensure maintenance readiness, including the review of all turnaround work backlog, review job plan resource estimates, and material and contract availability

  • Partner with quality and compliance counterparts to properly identify facility release criteria as part of the shutdown/start-up process.

  • Facilitate turnaround meetings and workshops, before, during, and after each event.

  • Provide regular readiness and progress reports to upper management and the turnaround team members. Prepare performance forecasts and projections.

  • Manage lessons learned database. Compile new lessons after each event.

Maintain Shutdown performance metrics for site-wide publication. Maintain effective communication with production and planning counterparts to ensure shutdown needs are met.

PROJECTS/PROGRAMS

Manage projects or programs at the Covington Manufacturing Facility through all phases of the project lifecycle (Initiation, Planning, Execution, and Closeout). Drive implementation of complex projects or programs by establishing strategies and managing scope, schedules, and budgets. Lead and coordinating activities of interdepartmental project team members from various departments including Engineering, Quality Assurance, Validation, Manufacturing, Technical Services, Maintenance, and Regulatory Affairs. Supervise and direct contingent support staff (consultants and general contractors). Identify and resolve complex problems and issues throughout the lifecycle of projects and programs. Interface with Covington Plant leadership and stakeholders to establish clear direction on project requirements and to provide regular status updates. Coordinate major maintenance activities that require partial or full plant shutdown, turnaround, or slow-down.

GENERAL:

Must be familiar with plant and divisional SOPs as related to positional and department responsibilities. Review procedures and update them as necessary. Ensure a safe work environment is maintained through adherence to safety guidelines and policies. Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with GA state and federal EPA regulation and laws. Specific responsible system repairs, upkeep, maintenance and operations managed within regulating agencies such as OSHA. Continuously stay current with assigned SOPs and keep an up to date training file ensuring compliance with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Ensure all mandatory training requirements are met, including annual EHS training, GMP refresher training and any applicable training requirements. Maintain an on-going two-way performance dialogue with Sr. Manager. Demonstrate continuous progress with respect to increasing job knowledge and proficiency in technical understanding/problem solving. Maintain a positive, professional and customer oriented attitude. Communicate any concerns related to safe work practices, hostile work environment, sexual harassment or any other type of employee misconduct directly to the supervisor, manager or human resources. May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience :

•Proficient in managing shutdown and turnarounds in a safely and cost effectively.

•Technical troubleshooting/problem solving skills are a must.

•Possess very strong verbal and written communication skills, documentation practices (cGDPs), be self-motivated and possess strong interpersonal skills. Have a thorough knowledge of utility equipment, using blue prints, equipment manuals, specifications, standard operating procedures, and be able to use proper judgment when taking corrective actions during equipment malfunction. Possess strong mechanical knowledge and skills on utility equipment. Have working knowledge of hazardous chemicals and their disposal, OSHA and FDA requirements. Demonstrate continuous progress with respect to increasing job knowledge and proficiency in technical understanding/problem solving.

Education and/or Experience

B.S. degree in Engineering with 5+ years of applicable experience is required.
