DESCRIPTION

Salary - $15 per hour


Salary - $15 per hour POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for EMS billing, phone calls, answering billing questions, and concerns. The job requires great customer service and has the responsibility for accuracy of EMS revenues. This position will fill in for the Financial Specialist II when needed. This position also shares front desk duties to greet visitors to the SBFD.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Billing for ambulance services provided by SPFD EMS to insurance companies.
  • Set up patient information, insurance information, and billing information in billing system.
  • Answer phone inquiries from patients and insurance companies to EMS office.
  • Solve customer concerns, questions, and billing issues.
  • Process HCFA-1500 health insurance claim forms on a weekly basis to insurance companies.
  • Research Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance denials for billed ambulance services.
  • Process attorney requests for litigated claims such as car accidents or liability claims.
  • Prepare and type correspondence that are requested from Legal Department and Insurance Agencies.
  • Process in person cash payments and credit card payments by phone and in person.
  • Gain ambulance coding certification within 1 year of hire and maintain an active certification.
  • Complete related work as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.
  • Assist with the front desk including greeting visitors, applicants, and other city employees.
  • Assist as a backup to administrative staff and financial specialist as needed.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required and at least one (1) year of clerical experience preferred.
  • Experience with computers, office and clerical procedures.
  • Accuracy with details and numbers is a must.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

  • Typing speed of 45+ WPM with accuracy.
  • Ability to deal effectively and respectfully with the public in person and over the telephone.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with insurance or medical experience helpful.
  • Knowledge of medical services billing, policies, and procedures.
  • Spanish language fluency preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:Certified Ambulance Coder preferred.

EQUIPMENT:Desktop computer, telephone, copier, scanner, 10 key adding machine, and facsimile machine.
