Generac Power Systems Senior Technical Writer in South Portland, Maine

The Senior Technical Writer for Generac Clean Energy will draft and edit technical documentation for Generac’s residential solar + storage power electronics. Documentation will include but will not be limited to: product manuals, technical specification sheets, applications notes, white papers, service manuals, product bulletins, and user guides. Candidates must have experience drafting and editing documentation for technical applications. Candidates must possess excellent computer skills, communication skills, and work well both independently and collaboratively. Candidates must be experts in the rules of writing and grammar. Candidates should have an eye for page layout and formatting. Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe software. Lastly, candidates should be able to extract product images from CAD modeling software and be able to create technical diagrams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, write and edit technical documentation such as owner’s manuals, installation manuals, service manuals, and bulletins for all product lines.

  • Develop and publish technical installation and parts manuals in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Develop deadline-driven documentation that meets style guide requirements and user expectations.

  • Provide peer support with Arbortext style sheets changes

  • Meet with cross-functional team members to gather product information and translate it into accessible, user-friendly documentation.

  • Gather information from other company publications to edit current publications.

  • provide mentorship to Technical Writer I &II level

  • Provide assistance and troubleshoot issues for level I & II writers

  • Create or change the Arbortext Style Sheets

  • Work as a key part of corporate New Product Introduction team to ensure all relevant technical publications are available for the product at launch.

Minimimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications or related field or equivalent experience

  • Excellent writing skills with an eye for detail

  • 5-10 years’ experience drafting and editing technical documentation

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Software

  • Experience managing and maintaining document version control

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in residential solar or similar industry

  • Experience creating and developing technical documentation for new products

  • Experience pulling images from Solidworks or related software

  • Ability to be self-directed and work remotely

  • Previous experience using Arbortext Styler

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all internal and external stakeholders

  • Knowledge of XML coding

  • Strong knowledge of Arbortext, Adobe Suite, Framemaker, and related programs

  • Strong writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills

  • Advanced mechanical and electrical aptitude

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
