Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

As a General Laborer, you will be responsible for the general cleaning and sanitation of a flour mill. You will start in the cleaning department for the first 30-60 days, sweeping up flour dust and keeping the plant clean to meet safety standards. Eventually, you will receive cross-training in packing, milling, and other areas, with the potential to move into the warehouse or milling departments based on needs and interests.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning and sanitation tasks in the flour mill.

  • Sweep up flour dust and maintain cleanliness to meet safety standards.

  • Conduct blowdown procedures by cleaning dust off equipment and sweeping it up.

  • Execute lockout/tagout procedures when cleaning inside equipment.

  • Potentially transition to warehouse or milling departments after the initial cleaning period, based on needs and interests.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude and good with hands.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Comfortable using computers and performing data entry.

  • Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest in learning the art of milling.

  • Experience with baking, cooking, palletizing, quality inspection, forklift operation, materials handling, and machine operation.

  • Strong math aptitude and ability to keep count, read, and write.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a flour mill that mills flour from wheat for retail grocery stores. You will need to follow safe food handling practices, including wearing a hair net and/or beard net, no piercings, hardhat, and steel toe shoes. The facility is an old building that is very dusty, with loud machines operating. It can get hot, reaching up to 115 degrees in the summer, and you will get dirty and covered in flour. The mill has 13 floors and can get slippery from flour on the ground, requiring you to go up and down stairs every day.
