YMCA of the Inland Northwest Lead Lifeguard in Spokane, Washington
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Lead Guard ensures smooth operation of the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics Department, and that emergency situations are handled appropriately and in accordance with YMCA protocol. The Lead Lifeguard promotes effective leadership and problem-solving skills to staff and members, maintaining a safe and exciting environment for both employees and patrons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor staff behavior, including lifeguard and swim instructor skills, and coaches' good behaviors and applications of skills to motivate staff
- Supervise lifeguard staff during emergency situations, ensuring the proper application of skills and procedures, assisting, when necessary, facilitate and submit documentation of incidents/accidents, and debrief situation with staff
- Patrol and monitor the active natatorium, engaging with members, swim lesson students, and program participants throughout your shift
- Coordinate staff break and meal periods to keep employees engaged and compliant with rules
- Report sanitation issues, unacceptable water quality, and maintenance and supply needs to supervisors and/or Facilities department when necessary
- Assist with staff meetings and administer training at Inservice training
- Assist the Aquatics Director with department needs as necessary
- Ensure staff are completing daily tasks and engaging with members throughout their shifts
Availability note: Must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule as shift coverage during mornings, evenings, and weekends may be necessary.
* QUALIFICATIONS:*
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and completes YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire
- Six months of related experience in aquatic programming
- Knowledge of providing customer and personal services to members, delivering a quality experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
*STARTING PAY: *$17.28/hr
