HP Inc. Manager, Firmware Engineering in Spring, Texas

We are seeking a high performing, experienced, and energetic Manager for our Firmware Development Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of BIOS/UEFI and Embedded Controller developers, coordinating multiple projects, managing risk, and providing status communications for cross-functional programs. You will work closely with hardware engineers, software developers, project managers, and other stakeholders to deliver Proof of Concepts, Prototype, and Production quality firmware. You will need to operate in complex disciplines, navigate ambiguous situations, and exercise independent judgment in developing project goals and direction.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the preparation and creation of architecture and implementation plans for firmware-based innovations.

  • Manages resources to define and complete programming projects, and designs detailed plans to ensure firmware is functioning properly.

  • Leads multiple project teams of software firmware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.

  • Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on firmware design and development.

  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.

  • Manages project meetings, schedules, milestones and delivery, including managing vendors and manufacturing partners to achieve teams goals.

  • Fosters collaboration between software firmware engineers, hardware engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders to achieve seamless integration of firmware with hardware and software components.

  • Serves as an expert on all firmware related topics and acts as overall firmware leadership to provide perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.

  • Stays updated with industry trends and emerging technologies related to firmware development, ensuring the team remains innovative and competitive.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.

Education & Experience Recommended

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.

  • Typically has 7-10 years of job-related experience or 5-7 years of management experience, preferably in firmware development, or a related field.
