General Description

Under direction of the Director of Retail Lending, the Consumer Lending Underwriting Manager is responsible for managing the underwriting, documentation, and closing of direct consumer loans, including daily supervision of the Consumer Lending Underwriting area staff. Keeps the Director of Retail Lending informed regarding all developments in their area of responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works closely with subordinate staff evaluating their performance, developing their abilities, and improving their output. Is responsible for the selection, placement, counseling, and salary administration of all staff in their area of responsibility. This duty is performed about 30% of the time.

  • Works closely with subordinate staff to review current policies, procedures, objectives, and goals ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, appropriateness, and coordination of these items with the over-all directions given by the Director of Retail Lending or Assistant Director of Retail Lending. This duty is performed about 20% of the time.

  • Manages consumer loan underwriting and documentation and ensures full compliance with all applicable lending policies and regulations. This duty is performed about 30% of the time.

  • Work closely with the Director of Retail Lending to implement lending guidelines and procedures to ensure the appropriate level of risk and product stratification is maintained in the Consumer Lending portfolio. This duty is performed 10% of the time.

  • In coordination with the Director of Retail Lending and/or the Assistant Director of Retail Lending, is responsible for new product identification and development. This duty is performed about 10% of the time.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. Reads, writes, and communicates in a clear and efficient manner via various types of correspondence, such as, in person, phone, email, letters, etc. Adheres to all company policies and procedures, as well as all applicable banking rules, regulations, and laws (including BSA/AML).

  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

    Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent, relevant work experience in lieu of degree

  • 3 years of related experience and/or training

  • 12 months of related supervisory experience

  • Regular use of desktop/laptop computer, basic operating systems, and specialized software systems.

  • Basic experience with alphanumeric data entry, PowerPoint; intermediate experience with Excel, and Word Processing

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

    License Requirements

    Must be registered, or become registered upon hire, under the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
