General Rental Center Small Engine Mechanic in Springfield, Missouri

The General Rental Center is looking to hire a Full-Time Small Engine Mechanic. We have competitive pay and benefits. Applicants must have a current driver's license for the state of Missouri and a good driving record. Experience with Construction Equipment is preferred. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Mechanic duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Discuss equipment issues, maintenance plans, and work performed with customers and/or service managers.

``` - Perform routine engine maintenance, such as lubricating parts and replacing spark plugs

``` - Test and inspect engines for malfunctioning parts

``` - Diagnostics and Perform Diagnostic Tests

``` - Adjust components according to specifications of Make and Model

``` - Repair or replace worn, defective, or broken parts

``` - Reassemble and reinstall components and engines following repairs

``` - Keep records of inspections, test results, work performed, and parts used

The mechanic works on power equipment ranging from chain saws to 12,000lb excavators. When equipment breaks down, the mechanic uses many strategies to diagnose the source and extent of the problem. The mechanic identifies mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system problems and makes necessary repairs. Some repairs will require the mechanic to drive to the customer's job site to diagnose and repair equipment. Must be able to lift up 50lbs safely.

The mechanic's tasks vary in complexity and difficulty. Maintenance inspections and repairs, for example, involve minor adjustments or the replacement of a single part. Hand calibration, piston calibration, and spark plug replacement, however, may require taking an engine apart completely.

  • Regularly lift, push, or move 50 pounds; occasionally lift, push, or move 100 pounds

``` - Primarily working indoors with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions such as heat and cold

``` - Noise level in the work environment can be loud; safety equipment is provided as needed
