Position Scope

The Senior Plant Operator role is to help lead a team of operators in the day-to-day operation of plant operations in support of process development activity and additional objectives as detailed by your management chain. You support the Supervisor, Operations in the operational delivery of plant test campaigns production output and assist in maintaining a healthy and safe environment. This position is also responsible for supervisory support during the supervisor’s absence. 

  • This position is based in Squamish, BC. 

  • This position is full-time shiftwork, requiring 12-hour shifts including day shift and night shifts. 

    Health, Safety and Environment

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture. 

  • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace. 

  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy. 

    Responsibilities

Technical

  • Operate plant equipment and man control panels as required.

  • Complete and authorize daily work permits as required.

  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and permits for plant operations.

  • Identify, capture and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.

  • Complete, assess and sign-off on Lock Out Tag Out (LOTOs)

  • Complete training requirements to learn about CE processes/expectations, and gain a critical understanding of plant systems, process fundamentals, and Plant operations. 

  • Must be able to perform the duties of a Plant Operator and Control Panel Operator.

    Leadership and Management

  • Assist the Supervisor, Operations in leading the Ops Team in delivering daily plant operations, including:

  • Executing test and production campaigns in line with the Ops Team schedule;

  • Maintaining a well-organized site and exceptional housekeeping standards;

  • Coordinating maintenance requirements and maintenance scheduling with the Maintenance Team;

  • Coordinating and overseeing contractors working on site.

  • Assume Supervisor, Operations role when they are absent.

  • Assist Supervisor, Operations in coordinating, prioritizing, and delegating daily tasks operations and workplace inspection to the Ops Team shift.

  • Fulfill Op Team responsibilities as detailed in the Operations Group Structure and Responsibilities document.

  • Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Ops Teams; promote effective teamwork, a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.

  • Mentor, support, and guide Plant Operators and Control Panel Operator in all aspects of plant operation.

  • Provide input to prioritization and scheduling of plant operations to achieve team objectives.

  • Identify constraints to achieving plant objectives and define the resources required to overcome these (e.g. new hires, software, equipment).

  • Identify and apply appropriate quality management tools and techniques to plant operations.

  • Prepare for and participate in daily Ops Meeting. 

  • Ensure adequate supply of resources for operations: safety equipment, plant chemicals, other consumables.

  • Carry out site tours as required for investors, media, and other guests.

  • Complete regular tasks as detailed in the Senior Operator Standard Work document

    Education and Experience

  • Engineering Technology Diploma, Chemical Technology Diploma or Power Engineering certification or similar is considered an asset.

  • At least 6 years of experience as a Plant Operator. Other industrial experience (maintenance, engineering, etc) will be considered.

  • Control panel experience considered an asset.

  • Experience in R&D or commissioning considered and asset.

  • Working knowledge of:

  • Permit to work;

  • Lockout tagout;

  • Contractor work;

  • Line break;

  • Hot work;

  • Confined space entry;

  • Working at height;

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks on a timely manner.

  • Able to apply clear judgement in high pressure situations.

  • Mechanically inclined and hands-on experience with industrial plant operations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Function well in a job where priorities often change across operations, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Thrive on doing things that have not been done before (explorer mindset).

The base salary for this role is $82,450-$97,000 per year. There is also a bonus incentive.
