Description

The Department of Social Work at St. Bonaventure University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in its online Master of Social Work program to begin in August 2025.

The successful faculty member will be an exceptional educator, make scholarly contributions in alignment with the Boyer Model, and engage in service with the program, institution, and profession. As a clinical MSW program with a focus on trauma and social justice, we are seeking an individual who has direct practice experience working with individuals, families, and/or communities that have endured trauma and/or are involved with the legal or child welfare system.

Examples of Duties

This is a 9-month faculty position with a teaching load of 18 credits. It is a remote position with faculty presence on campus once a year for graduation. The faculty member will teach courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and following the approved course descriptions and curricular guidelines established by the Faculty and approved by the Dean and the Provost. Non-teaching assignments will include instructional development; academic assisting students; participating in Departmental and University-wide activities; serving on committees and task forces; and other appropriate responsibilities as described in the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook.

Typical Qualifications

Applicants must have an MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program, five or more years post-MSW full-time practice experience, and LCSW or equivalent licensure designation in New York. Candidates with a DSW or PhD from a regionally accredited institution are preferred, as are candidates with a minimum of two years of higher education teaching experience at the Bachelor or Master level and experience with online course delivery and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Preferred candidates will also have experience related directly to the Council on Social Work Education’s accreditation guidelines. This includes, but isn’t limited to, experience and/or knowledge of CSWE accreditation standards and processes, ensuring compliance with annual reporting, and successful preparation for CSWE site visits.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of and incorporate cultural sensitivity in their role and responsibilities. Cultural sensitivity is an important part of social work practice and is demonstrated via understanding cultural differences, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, using anti-racist practices, and being aware of cultural values and beliefs.

Supplemental Information

All applicants must electronically submit to NeoEd a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. Letters of application should speak to the candidate’s teaching philosophy, scholarly agenda, and experience and/or interests with regard to service to the community.

Applications will be reviewed beginning December 10, 2024, and continue until the position has been filled. Please address specific questions regarding the position to Dr. Doyle Pruitt, Chair of the Search Committee, dpruitt@sbu.edu.
