Description
St. Bonaventure University is accepting applications for the position of Full Time Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time appointment reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Life. The university orthopedic doctor supervises the trainer. This position will work directly with a full time trainer and the university’s 18 club sport teams and varsity men’s rugby program.
Responsibilities: Successful candidate will be able to assist with the supervision, coordination, and implementation of the University’s overall sports medicine program, including, but not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of injuries, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Other responsibilities of the athletic trainer include but are not limited to: keeping accurate and current medical records for assigned sports and administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Student Life. This position will assist in Wellness Programming for the teams and campus community.

Provide daily health care of student-athletes while maintaining athletic training room operations including setting up and breaking down patient modalities, stocking supplies, monitoring equipment for maintenance and inventory

Supplemental Functions:
Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including, prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
Assess risk of injury; perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.
Responsible for the sports medicine care of all sports, as assigned.
Record and maintain medical documentation for care given
Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient.
Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
Provide daily health care of student-athletes while maintaining athletic training room operations and inventory.
Uphold medical team organization and collaboration by facilitating a working relationship and maintaining comprehensive communication with team physicians, coaches, athletes, and supervisors.
Practice and competition coverage for assigned teams
Review student-athletes’ pre-participation forms.
Complete all training documentation in a timely manner and share with referring and supervising physician.
Perform baseline concussion testing and tracking for each team.
Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Maintain BOC certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applied Knowledge: Must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Attention to Detail: Is expected to be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
Maintain confidentiality of athlete injury information.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate area of specialization.
Previous college athletics experience preferred.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
Licensed in the state of New York or eligible.
CPR/AED certification.
-A valid DMV driver’s license.
