St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time Associate/Full Professor position in the department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 1/1/2025.

Job Description

Objective

Essential Functions

Enhance the knowledge, growth, and overall development of the veterinary students through contribution to courses administered by the Department through the delivery of assigned lectures, running small groups, reviewing, and contributing to course material, developing and reviewing exam questions. Contribution to research is also required.

The expected FTE for the position is as follows:

  • Clinical Service (40%)

  • Instruction (50%)

  • Course/Committee Administration (5%)

  • Scholarship (5%)

    Instructional Activities:

    This position will include participation in different clinical skills courses across the curriculum. Instruction, scholarship, and clinical service are expected.

    · Active participation in the following labs:

  • SAMS 513 Diagnostic Imaging

  • SAMS 501 Rad I

  • SAMS 502 Rad II

  • SAMS 528 Introduction to SAC Clinical Rotations (Radiology/Diagnostic imaging)

    Diagnostic Imaging (SAMS 513)

  • Deliver selected lectures in Diagnostic Imaging in the graduate programs and clinical participation of the Small Animal Clinic activities in term 5 (SAMS 513).

  • Instruction of 5th term students in the different DI modalities

  • Provide technical skills development for pre-clinical Veterinary students by actively participating of the assigned DI laboratories in terms 5

  • Course administration

  • Grading of student performance.

  • Assist in conducting and grading of examinations in compliance with the SVM Examination Policy

    · Clinical rotations (SAMS 528)

  • Instruct 6th term students in a clinical setting by actively participating of the Small Animal Clinic rotation

  • Provide clinical service in the Small Animal Clinic (SAC) by assisting clinical faculty with imaging diagnosis (Radiology and Ultrasound)

  • Assist in technician education/training

  • Contribute to other SAC activities (i.e. M&M rounds, case presentations).

    · Rad I and II (SAMS 501 and 502

  • Assist junior Faculty with introduction to diagnostic imaging (radiographic anatomy and basic ultrasound technique) in small animals (SAMS 501) and large animals (SAMS 502).

    Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Active engagement in a research program in the area of expertise which will provide also student research opportunities.

  • Develop and contribute to extension and continuing education programs, in collaboration with other departments and/or other schools.

  • Support student research and learning through supervision and mentoring of selected students

  • Contribute to curriculum review and innovation.

  • Practice continuous quality improvement of the courses and content delivered by the department

  • Active participation in scientific/educational conferences and Continued Education

    Service

    · Participate in the following University activities:

  • Departmental Reviews (as required)

  • Faculty Meetings (as required)

  • Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)

  • Administrative roles, as assigned by the Chair of the Department and/or the Dean

  • Outreach efforts in the local community (i.e. OHOM)

  • Faculty Senate

  • Contribute to the academic advisory system for all students enrolled on the DVM program.

    Qualifications

  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree.

  • Board certification. Board eligibility will be considered, MSc preferable.

    Desirable Qualities

  • Experience teaching Small Animal Diagnostic Imaging in a Veterinary Medicine curriculum

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • A commitment to the education of DVM professionals

  • The successful applicant should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a positive attitude toward student enrichment in all areas of academic and practical preparatory coursework. A strong candidate also must have a desire for contribution to scientific literature.
