SVM - Associate Professor, Pathobiology

St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time Associate Professor position in the department of Pathobiology in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 1/1/2025.

Job Description

Objective

Provide major contributions to research at the SVM, with additional minor contributions to teaching and service. Enhance the knowledge, growth, and overall development of veterinary and graduate students by fostering engagement and education. This position will have a primary focus on research, with an anticipated FTE for Research of 60-70%. Three-years of research funding is provided to cover consumables/supplies, equipment, and other necessary expenditures.

Essential Functions

Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Actively engage in scholarly activities that support collaborative research at the SVM. This includes: writing grants, animal use protocols, manuscripts and conducting research that involves students.

  • Areas of research emphasis include vector-borne disease, zoonotic disease and public health, aquatic animal health, parasitology, bacteriology/mycology, pathology/clinical pathology, and clinical sciences.

  • Provide graduate and veterinary students research opportunities, mentorship, and training.

  • Participate in the Island Veterinary Summer Program (summer program that runs from mid-May to end July)

    Service

  • Support clinical and diagnostic services where appropriate based on the specific expertise of the candidate.

    Participate in the following University activities:

  • Faculty Senate

  • Departmental Meetings (when required)

  • Departmental Faculty evaluations (when required)

  • SVM Faculty Meetings (when required)

  • Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)

  • Outreach efforts in the local and regional communities (i.e., One Health One Medicine Program, CaribVet)

    Instructional Activities:

  • Develop and deliver course and lesson content and examination questions in veterinary and graduate courses

    General

Serve as an advisor to assigned students

Qualifications

  • PhD (required)

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (desirable)

  • A strong record of publication and extramural grant awards

  • Experience in mentoring graduate students

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and written skills

  • Strong attention to detail

    Hours and Travel

  • A typical work week is 40 hours Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm and includes scheduled employment during the summer outside of the academic calendar.

  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the core work hours between 8 am – 5 pm on campus for in-person classroom/laboratory, diagnostics, and research, otherwise available by email or remote means for meetings.

  • Travel for medical/personal and professional meetings is granted by request and approval of the administration
