This role requires full time on site presence.

CBC has a permanent full-time amazing opportunity for a Video Producer to join our Land and Sea team in St. John’s, NL.

Your role

You will be a key member of the Land and Sea unit led by the Host/Producer. On a daily basis, you will be involved in planning and creating compelling visual content for CBC's digital, social and television platforms.

As a video producer, you will shoot and edit all material for the season. You will also be called upon to capture audio in the studio and in the field. You will be responsible for communicating with local and network teams with the specific details of the episodes, promos, transfers to playback for airing and delivering for closed captioning.

You bring enthusiasm and an appreciation for Newfoundland and Labrador’s history, culture, traditions and diverse communities as well as a curiosity about our changing environment and ecosystems.

You will be available for year-round and frequent travel. In keeping with the mandate of the show, there will be requirements to work at sea, in aircraft and on the ground in sometimes challenging terrain. All work would adhere to CBC standard risk assessments.

You will perform visual research with the use of archives and databases.

You will be responsible for location surveys and identifying special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles and production limitations.

You will ensure that the material produced meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editing.

You will provide technical guidance, expertise and support within the team.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from university or college plus five years of practical and relevant experience in videography, video and photo editing.

  • Experience working with social and digital video, as well as the ability to think creatively in the production of video content.

  • Familiarity with photo and video equipment -- including, Sony PMW500, Canon DSLR and various still cameras and mobile devices -- and editing techniques and tools including Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects.

  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

  • A strong sense of creativity, initiative and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production cycle.

  • Ability to work effectively to multiple deadlines along with excellent organizational skills.

  • Able to work various shifts and overtime, as required.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company

  • Must possess a valid passport and have the ability and willingness to travel across Canada and internationally on short notice.
