This position serves our partners at Minnesota’s largest state agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS). The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.

As the Database Operations Systems Supervisor, you will manage highly technical database staff who provide database administration and consultation across the DHS/MNsure agency, MNIT DHS/MNsure, and Minnesota IT Services organizations. You will provide advanced professional technical knowledge and skills in database administration, project management for assigned work, break/fix resolution processes, and staff direction of assigned projects and activities, as well as perform assigned independent work on research studies, with thorough evaluation of existing and new database technology along with feasibility studies. In this position you will establish and monitor adherence to system and security standards. Supervisory responsibilities extend to work coordination, job assignment, employee development and evaluation. This position will work closely with Directors, Managers, Supervisors and staff across Minnesota IT Services and business partners from the Department of Human Service, MNsure, Counties and Tribal offices to support the advancement and management of databases and applications in a mission critical, real-time, 24 X 7 system environments.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of database management experience.

Experience must include:

  • Two (2) years of lead work or supervisory experience.

  • Experience working with complex database environments with confidential and highly sensitive data.

  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure, applications, and services.

  • Experience with database systems modifications, enhancements, and documentation.

  • Experience remediating security vulnerabilities through regular audit reporting and assessments.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server.

  • Five (5) years of database management experience, and three (3) years of lead work or supervisory experience.

  • Strong skills in working with business partners and/or IT partners on developing and executing scope, budget, and schedule.

  • Strong skills in fostering an inclusive work environment, developing rapport, networking, resolving conflict and negotiating diplomatically with others to bridge differences.

  • Strong ability to be able to translate technical information into plain language and vice versa.

  • Strong skills in organization, prioritization, and time management including the ability to understand problems before delivering a solution in a complex environment.

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods and techniques of systems analysis and design, and standard systems development methodology.
