Job Summary:

The Dean of Health Sciences provides executive leadership and educational management of the academic areas representing health science disciplines. The Dean provides leadership and direction in the development and management of programs; articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities; collaboration with business and industry; and maintenance of program accreditation standards. In addition, the Dean promotes a positive environment for teaching and learning by inspiring and supporting teaching and learning practices and positively impacting student success and achievement. The Dean will develop and implement policies and procedures that reflect Saint Paul College’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Dean will help the division and its programs develop a culture of continuous improvement by using data to set goals, make informed decisions, monitor progress, and assess the effectiveness of their work. The Dean will actively engage in outreach activities that increase partnerships, enrollment, and philanthropy. The Dean reports to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) and is a member of the ASA Leadership Team, the College Leadership Team, and Cabinet.

Job Duties:

  1. Program Management: Oversee academic programs, collaborating with faculty and staff, managing class schedules, budgets, and program developments. Ensure alignment with outcomes and support program accreditations and evaluations. Provide innovative leadership to the following academic programs in a collaborative manner with chairs, faculty, and staff:
  • Health Sciences Broad Field

  • Medical Laboratory Technician

  • Health Information Technology

  • Medical Office Careers

  • Healthcare Administration

  • Nursing Assistant

  • Healthcare Informatics

  • Pharmacy Technician

  • Massage Therapy

  • Practical Nursing

  • Public Health

  • Sport and Exercise Sciences

  • Respiratory Therapy

  • Sterile Processing/Surgical Technology

  • Simulation Center

  1. Academic Leadership: Represent the division in committees and task forces, uphold accreditation standards, and ensure effective student learning outcomes. Promote diversity, assist in policy development, and ensure compliance with federal regulations.

  2. Instructional Quality and Effectiveness: Lead faculty recruitment, selection, mentoring, and professional development. Promote teaching excellence, high-impact strategies, and the use of technology to improve student achievement and learning.

  3. Collaboration and Innovation: Develop and maintain partnerships with universities, high schools, and industry partners. Seek alternative funding sources and support internship opportunities and effective advisory committees.

  4. Diversity and Compliance: Ensure equal treatment of all employees and prospective employees, identifying and addressing diversity and equal opportunity barriers.

  5. Strategic Planning and Reporting: Provide input into college-wide strategic planning, monitor program effectiveness, and use data to improve program outcomes and student success.

  6. General Administration: Coordinate administrative functions, including budgeting, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with policies, labor contracts, and accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution;

  • Three (3) years of related experience in higher education;

  • A successful record of maintaining and sustaining a cohesive relationship with faculty and staff and building a cohesive and diverse team;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including group and public speaking;

  • Demonstrated commitment to the role and mission of a community college;

  • Experience in organizing and writing reports and presentations;

  • Demonstrated experience with developing partnerships with business/industries, community partners, and/or Community Based Organizations;

  • Demonstrated understanding of student success strategies at community and technical colleges, particularly for BIPOC, Pell eligible, and other underrepresented learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution;

  • Knowledge of technical and community college organization, curriculum, goals, vision, fiscal regulations, and procedures;

  • Knowledge of innovative programs and pedagogy designed to serve diverse and non-traditional and adult students;

  • Teaching or training experience;

  • Knowledge of Minnesota State policies, procedures, and organizational structure;

  • Knowledge of postsecondary program and institutional accreditation standards and their implementation (e.g., ACEN, CoARC, the Higher Learning Commission).
