Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Directors of Quality Engineering lead a team of Quality Engineers to drive quality-focused development work in multiple technology product teams, instilling and supporting quality engineering practices and a testing mindset to improve overall quality and team velocity. The Director of Quality Engineering coaches members of their team and engineering leaders at all levels to leverage best practices, automation, frameworks, tooling, and methodologies in an effort to improve overall software quality.
What Will You Do?
Lead a team of Quality Engineers by providing technical guidance and mentorship while modeling Travelers' leadership behaviors.
Develop and expand our test automation framework and test coverage.
Develop working knowledge of the entire application stack including tests at all levels. (Unit, Integration, and End-to-end).
Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, Data Engineers, and with the wider product and development team to understand how new features should be tested and to contribute to automated tests for these new features.
Collaborate with engineers to define and implement mechanisms to inject testing earlier into the software development process.
Identify, share, and nurture the adoption of best practices in code health, testing, testability, and maintainability. You should champion clean code and the concept of the test pyramid.
Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
5 years of related experience; including insurance / financial services industry experience.
Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends and techniques (e.g., cloud-based solutions leveraging microservices).
Interprets internal/ external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes.
What is a Must Have?
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience.
Five years of programming/development experience.
