Regions Hospital Health Unit Coordinator in St. Paul, Minnesota
Regions Hospital is hiring a friendly, organized, and adaptable individual to join the Orthopedic/General Surgery unit as a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)! This thirty-five bed unit cares for our orthopedic and general surgery patients and has been recognized by the International Geriatric Fracture Society as one of the first Geriatric Fracture Care Programs in the United States. This unit believes in the power of partnership and to provide the best care for our patients it takes everyone to be a leader and intuitive. Individuals who are hired into this role receive a weeklong training about the electronic health system and how to use it effectively to ensure they can be that partner for good. Taking on the role as a Health Unit Coordinator means you will use your communication and critical-thinking skills to support the nursing staff and create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors. As a Health Unit Coordinator, you serve as the first person of contact on the unit and will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and visitors through welcoming behaviors, effective communication, and information sharing. In addition to customer service, this position simultaneously performs clerical/receptionist functions on a patient unit which includes but are not limited to, organizing, and maintaining unit supplies necessary for daily activities, preparing and maintaining patient records, preforming data entry into the electronic system, acting as a resource to medical staff regarding hospital protocols and communicating between staff, patients, families, care providers, and between the unit and other hospital departments. This position works under the supervision of the nurse manager/ charge nurse. Work Schedule/FTE: This position is a .5 (20 hours a week) working the evening shift from 1:30pm-9:30pm and every other weekend. This position also requires you work every other holiday. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous experience with office procedures and equipment or recent education within one year with office procedures and equipment Computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology Previous customer service experience that included personal interactions both in person and on the phone, problem solving, and skill in balancing needs of guests and colleagues alike Preferred Qualifications: Education or experience in a health care field Benefits: This position is eligible for medical insurance, dental insurance, 401K with a match, disability insurance, paid time-off, and tuition reimbursement.
