This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

Join our Unix/Linux Operations and Support Team, where you'll play a crucial role in providing leadership and expertise to drive the success of MNIT's Unix/Linux operations. You will play a role in the planning, implementation, administration, and maintenance of MNIT's Unix/Linux operations, ensuring seamless support across the enterprise.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recommending, planning, and leading the implementation of cutting-edge Unix/Linux technologies and strategies for MNIT.

  • Providing essential services to adhere to MNIT standards and policies, guaranteeing optimal operations.

  • Strategizing and executing the migration of Unix/Linux servers to Azure or other cloud environments.

  • Planning and maintaining the overall MNIT Unix/Linux Enterprise strategy.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.

  • Candidates residing outside of Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.

  • Candidates located in Minnesota, or a bordering state, do not require additional review.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience with Unix/Linux OS support and administration.

Experience must include:

  • Proficiency with configuration management tools, including but not limited to Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting servers within Cloud environments, encompassing VMware, AWS, Azure, and others.

  • Proven ability to automate Unix/Linux tasks using scripting languages such as Shell, Python, Perl, and similar.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR a related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR a related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PowerShell, BICEP, JSON.

  • Familiarity with Linux shell scripting automation tools like Red Hat Ansible, server build automation both on-premises and in the cloud, and centralized management of users.

  • Sophisticated troubleshooting ability, including the ability to create and test hypotheses based on relative likelihood.

  • Effective customer service skills, with the ability to interact frequently with end-users and other staff.

  • Clear and concise communication with MNIT and Central staff, end-users, and vendors, including the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical staff.

  • Demonstrate understanding of core Cloud Computing services within Azure Platform.

  • Experience using and supporting Linux in cloud environments such as Azure and AWS.

  • Ability to apply research and analytical skills in evaluating new technology.
